The Centre of Excellence in Safety for Older People Signs Memorandum of Understanding with the European Geriatric Medicine Society

OBJECTIVES OF THE PARTNERSHIP:

  1. Improve patient safety in hospitals, care homes and the wider community. Help build a culture of professionalism which recognises the importance of safety, dignity and compassion in the care of older people., and facilitates a sharing of knowledge, skill and innovation.
  2. Ensure the values of dignity and respect are always upheld by way of empowering medical, nursing and socal care that compassionate and caring and treats people with dignity and respect.
  3. Increase public awareness (patients, relatives, carers, and health professionals) of issues relating to safety of older people.
  4. Promote multidisciplinary research in safety of older people.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Centre of Excellence in Safety for Older People (CESOP) and the European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS) the general purpose being that of collaboration between EuGMS and CESOP on education/training and advocacy about safety of older patients. Both Parties have the common objectives of improving patient safety in hospitals, care homes and the wider community, helping to build a culture of professionalism recognising the importance of safety, dignity and compassion of the care of older people and facilitating a sharing of knowledge, skills and innovation.
