Meeting with Sir Keith Pearson Chair – Health Education England
10 April 2018
‘I am enthusiastically behind the work that the Centre of Excellence in Safety of Older People’s Care will be doing. I wish you well in this work and look forward to learning more and to HEE and I doing what we can to support and promote your work in the future’.
I warmly welcome the establishment of the Centre and look forward to supporting its work. One of the very top priorities of the NHS must be to ensure patient safety. At Health Education England, we recognize that getting it right involves instilling the right culture from the very beginning of a healthcare worker’s career.
That is why we established the independent Commission on Education and Training for Patient Safety. We have been working since then to take these recommendations forward.
Safe care must also be delivered with a focus on patient dignity. I am personally committed to this agenda having, in 2011, chaired the Commission on Dignity in Care for Older People.
It works at the limits of science – bringing the highest levels of human knowledge and skill to save lives and improve health. It touches our lives at times of basic human need, when care and compassion are what matter most.”
